Science nerd turned singer-songwriter.
Okay, this isn’t really taking a break from my break, because I’m posting about an ode to science nerdiness (wordpress doesn’t think that “nerdiness” is a word, but then, it also doesn’t think that “wordpress” is a word, so I’m going to ignore it).
I’ve mentioned my enthrallment with the musician Josh Ritter several times before this, but I only recently got my hands on his very first, self-titled album. There is a hidden track on that album that I have fallen for. It’s hilarious. And it’s short, so you have no excuse not to listen to it. It’s about unrequited love, photosynthesis, and physics–how can you go wrong with that combination?

I LOVE this song!!
I’m amused.
clever.
I like some of Josh Ritter’s stuff a lot. WordPress doesn’t think WordPress is a word. Well, you can’t accuse them of overt self-interest, I guess.
Oh! Man! Beautiful!
This is even going to be useful to me. Thanks!
I’m glad that you all liked it.
At the concert I went to on Saturday, he explained the origin of this song. He was studying physics at Oberlin, and while studying for an organic chemistry exam, he realized that he didn’t want to be a scientist. He threw this song together (he claimed that it contains everything he learned about science in college) and sang it to his mother over the phone along with the news that he was switching majors.
I’m sitting here mopping about getting ride of the boy that it was a good idea to get ride of . . . and your song has cheered me up. Yeah!
Getting rid, rather.
